Quicktime 7.1.6 is out

Quicktime 7.1.6 is out. This is the third Quicktime security release this year. SANS Incident Handler Joel Esler thinks Apple should be commended for putting out an update in 12 days. I have a different opinion about that as you might imagine.
I am starting to question whether or not Quicktime should be part of our corporate ghost image. We don’t use Quicktime for anything internally. Perhaps instead of pushing out Quicktime for the third time this year, I should be pushing an uninstall script.
The best that can be said about Quicktime 7.1.6 is at least this time Apple didn’t release the update for Mac weeks before the Windows version, as they did earlier this year. At least Apple didn’t release a Quicktime update stealthily to MySpace users only. (hmm, counting that update there have been four versions of Quicktime in 2007.
